You may be aware of the current and ongoing situation on the moorland above Oldham and Tameside which is causing a number of issues both within the local vicinity but also wider due mainly to the smoke.

We are closely monitoring developments.  The advice from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue is to:

  • avoid smoky areas
  • if there is visible smoke stay indoors and keep your doors and windows closed.
  • limit the time you spend outdoors.
  • if driving in smoky areas, keep your windows wound up and switch air conditioning systems to recycle or recirculate to prevent drawing in outside air.
  • individuals with heart or lung diseases such as asthma should ensure they have access to their medication and seek medical advice if their symptoms worsen.

In addition, there are also road closures and emergency services are advising not to park in areas where emergency services will need to access.

Our Neighbourhoods teams are currently contacting tenants closest to the area with further advice and making extra visits to our sheltered housing residents, supported schemes and temporary accommodation in the affected areas to provide additional advice and help
