The ‘Save Up & Settle In’ Scheme (Greater Manchester) aims to encourage individuals to join a local credit union and start saving money upon joining the social housing register or whilst awaiting a property.
Individuals who save a minimum of £25 in 3 months* will have £25 topped-up into their credit union account.
They will be encouraged to continue to save after the initial 3 months to help cover costs for a new tenancy and allows them access to safe, affordable credit if needed.
(*e.g. £8.50 a month or £2.10 a week)
The SoundPound Group is a co-operative of 14 credit unions across Greater Manchester (the scheme will run with one of the credit unions).
The credit union will work with the local authority or individual housing provider – facilitated with help from the GMHP.
The Illegal Money Lending Team (IMLT) will provide a £25 top-up to those who qualify.
Visit the SoundPound Group (Greater Manchester) website to find and register with one of the co-operative 14 Credit Unions.
