Rightsizing Scheme, What is it?

We know that your housing needs can change as life evolves, and we’re here to help you transition to a home that’s a better fit for your current circumstances. Perhaps your family has grown up and moved out, leaving unused rooms behind. You might be looking to cut down on household expenses or rent, simplify your lifestyle, or are impacted by the bedroom tax. Maybe the upkeep of your home or garden has become more challenging.

Whatever your reason, our aim is to help you move into a space that works better for you. This is what we refer to as Rightsizing, also known as Downsizing.

Jigsaw’s “rightsizing” scheme helps tenants move into homes that better suit their current needs, whether they are under-occupying or overcrowded. In order to free up much needed family homes for either our current tenants or those in temporary accommodation, we are assisting residents of larger properties to downsize.

This could be through a management move to a smaller void property, or potentially a direct offer of a new build. In some local authorities there is also financial assistance to facilitate with the move.

Who qualifies?
  • Tenants who are under-occupying by 2 or more bedrooms
  • Decisions will be made on a case by case basis when these tenants have arrears. If the arrears are due to the bedroom tax and the tenants are engaging with Money Advisors, they will most likely still qualify
  • Decisions will be made on a case by case basis when there is poor property condition, depending on the severity of this and the tenant’s personal circumstances.
