Marking Major Milestone in Tameside Housing Development

A special stone setting ceremony has marked a key milestone in the construction of 35 new affordable apartments in Tameside.

Located on the site of the former car park at Mill Lane and Stamford Street Central in Ashton-under-Lyne, the development will provide 33 one-bedroom and 2 two-bedroom homes for social rent.

The scheme is being delivered by local housing provider Jigsaw Homes Group, in partnership with Tameside Council, contractor J Greenwood Builders, Neo Projects, Sutcliffe Engineers and JDA Architects.

Marking the occasion were Katie Marshall, Deputy CEO and Group Director of Development at Jigsaw Homes Group, John Greenwood Chairman and Mark Frain, Project Manager from J Greenwood, Shane Furnival, Project Surveyor at Neo Projects and Rebecca Barwise, Associate at JDA Architects.

This project forms part of Jigsaw Homes’ wider commitment to providing high-quality, affordable housing with two further schemes in Tameside, all part-funded by Homes England and Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) Brownfield Housing Fund.

Katie Marshall said: “This is an exciting milestone for what will be a fantastic development delivering much-needed new homes in Ashton.

“We are proud to be working with our trusted partners to bring forward homes of excellent quality that will support the local community. Marking this stage in the build is a great way to recognise the progress made so far and the strong collaboration driving the scheme forward.”

Mark Frain, Project Manager at J Greenwood said: “This milestone is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in bringing this scheme forward. We’re pleased to be delivering much-needed affordable homes in Ashton and are especially grateful to be working once again with our trusted partners at Jigsaw Homes Group.

“Collaborating on another meaningful development like this reflects our shared commitment to creating high-quality, sustainable housing that meets real needs across the North West.”

The new homes are being developed to achieve EPC A and includes solar panels to help offset the cost of communal heating and electricity use.

The scheme is due for completion in February 2026.
