£22M RETROFIT PROJECT SET TO TRANSFORM HOMES ACROSS NORTH WEST

£22M RETROFIT PROJECT SET TO TRANSFORM HOMES ACROSS NORTH WEST

Thousands of families across the North West could benefit from warmer, healthier homes, thanks to a major multi-million pound energy efficiency programme.

This landmark £22m project will be delivered for Jigsaw Homes Group by regeneration specialists RE:GEN North West.

It will see around 1,452 homes in Chorley, Lancashire receive a portion of the funds for upgrades over the next three years, with work focused on tackling fuel poverty and improving customers’ quality of life through enhanced energy efficiency. Homes across Greater Manchester including Tameside will also benefit.

So far, more than 570 surveys have already taken place in homes across the borough, from Adlington to Coppull and over to Clayton-le-Woods with 232 properties moving ahead with a coordination pack created to detail what work could be happening to help improve energy efficiency.

This will include upgrades such as low-energy lighting, loft and cavity wall insulation, and improved ventilation. By improving the fabric of each home, they will retain warmth more effectively, reducing energy bills and creating more comfortable living environments.

The work, which is funded in part by the government’s Warmer Homes: Social Housing Fund (WH:SHF) Wave 3, will help homes reach an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of B or C — in line with the government’s target for all social homes to meet this standard by 2030.

Gary Heaton, Operations Director of Asset Management at Jigsaw Homes Group said: “Our aim is to ensure that our residents live in warm, safe and sustainable homes, and we encourage all residents eligible for the survey to make sure they book one in as in doing so, they could see significant savings on their energy bills once the upgrades are complete.

“We know this work will make a real difference and residents will be kept informed and supported every step of the way. The aim is to not only ensure participation but to help everyone involved fully understand the long-term benefits of the upgrades.”

RE:GEN has already delivered improvements to over 4,000 homes under previous waves of the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund.

Ed Carroll, Managing Director at RE:GEN North West said: “This is one of the biggest opportunities we have to positively impact thousands of lives across Chorley through our work.

“Our team all share the same purpose of enhancing lives through safe, sustainable social housing regeneration — and that goes beyond the direct work we’ll deliver to these homes. We always put customers at the heart. Our expert team will listen, support, and empower customers throughout their home improvement journey.”

With the work to homes set to start in June, the project is about enabling real change and wider community investment with plans for job creation, skills development and volunteering initiatives that will benefit local group and charities.
