Over the last nine months, Jigsaw Homes Group has turned around more than 1,400 empty homes into ones ready for re-let – to help more people in housing need.
The figures come at the start of National Empty Homes Week (9-15 March), the annual campaign that highlights the work councils and communities are doing to bring empty properties back into use and act on those impacting local neighbourhoods.
Across the Group, Jigsaw’s voids teams have turned around a total of 1,426 empty properties from April to December, with completions expected to reach around 1,900 by the financial year end of March 2026.
Jigsaw’s voids teams are notified when a tenancy ends and regularly receive reports of abandoned properties, all of which are acted on as quickly as possible.
Working closely with the Lettings teams, they identify which properties are a priority and schedule the work accordingly, ensuring void loss is kept to a minimum and empty homes are returned efficiently to people in housing need.
Each property is carefully assessed before it can be relet, with gas and electrical safety testing, damp checks, clearing, cleaning, decorating all carried out as well as replacing kitchens and bathrooms, to tackle whatever condition the property has been left in ahead of a new resident moving in.
Paul Woodcock, Operations Director – Jigsaw Maintenance, said: “With such a large housing waiting list, it is fantastic to see so many empty properties being turned around quickly and back into homes for people who need them most.”
