Liverpool City Region has approved Jigsaw Homes Group’s first site to receive Brownfield funding, marking a positive step in the regeneration of derelict land into much-needed affordable housing.
Located on Well Lane in Bootle, the former wrought iron works which also included an abstraction well, has stood vacant since 2013. Planning permission was granted for its redevelopment by Sefton council in December 2024.
Part-funded by Homes England, the scheme will provide 21 homes for social rent, including eight one-bedroom cottage flats, twelve one-bedroom apartments, and a single bungalow, offering a mix of properties for local people in housing need.
Work on the site, which includes remediation and decommissioning of the well, is expected to begin in December following the recent appointment of contractors R.P Tyson.
Jigsaw has previously delivered affordable housing schemes in Sefton, including developments on Beach Road and Buckley Hill Lane that provided homes for more than 250 residents.
Garnet Fazackerley, Operations Director of Development at Jigsaw Homes Group said: “With this brownfield funding from Liverpool City Region, we can transform this land into much needed affordable homes to help meet local housing need.
“As a provider with a strong track record of delivering homes in the area, we are looking forward to getting started with this latest scheme.”
