Manchester Residents Review Designs for Affordable Housing

Residents in Miles Platting are being asked for their views ahead of Jigsaw’s proposed new affordable housing scheme in a bid to ensure local voices are heard.

Working in partnership with Manchester City Council, plans for much-needed new homes in and around Varley Street are now underway.

The area earmarked for development includes land around Baker House on Oldham Road and stretches from Varley Street to Falkland Avenue and down to Rosewell Avenue.

It also includes the development of 32 one-bedroom apartments for social rent on the site of the former Apollo Inn, which was granted planning permission in December.

To ensure views of local people are at the heart of this process, social enterprise PLACED is gathering community input and ideas to help shape the initial draft proposals.

The potential plans for housing and green spaces have been based on some of the input from the first round of consultation with residents in June last year.

PLACED is now carrying out a second series of public engagement events to share the draft proposals, find out whether local people feel it’s suitable for Miles Platting and to gather any further feedback.

Two further drop-in sessions will be held on:

Wednesday 25 February from 12pm until 7pm at the Church of the Apostles on Ridgway Street and

Thursday 26 February from 12pm until 4pm at the Community Grocers in Queensbury Court on Wardle Street.

Anyone who lives or works in the community is welcome to attend during those times.
