A community pantry in Dukinfield has received £15,000 from the Jigsaw Foundation to continue supporting residents throughout the cost-of-living crisis.
The pantry, located next to the Jigsaw Community Hub, operates every Tuesday morning, providing chilled, fresh, frozen and dried goods to residents across Dukinfield and Ashton-under-Lyne.
Supported by Jigsaw, FareShare GM and volunteers, the pantry supports more than 100 people every week, with each £5 shop offering around £20 worth of groceries to those in need of affordable and convenient everyday essentials.
The new funding will help cover the cost of food and grocery items over the next three years, ensuring the pantry can continue to meet the needs of local households as it enters its tenth year.
Elizabeth Lees, Volunteer and Treasurer for the pantry based at Wellington Parade, said: “During this cost-of-living crisis, we are seeing many people of different backgrounds from the local community reaching out to us to give them a helping hand to purchase good quality, healthy food to feed their families.
The funding has helped us to continue to operate and provide more food to more people who need it the most.”
