In February 2025 we conducted a survey called ‘20% Movement‘ to explore how we might encourage more people living in social housing to work in the housing sector.
The survey would only accept responses from Jigsaw Rewards members who are currently employed, looking for employment, cannot work due to childcare commitments or being someone’s registered carer.
All members were made aware of the criteria prior to completing the survey and questions were placed in the survey to ensure that anyone who did not meet the criteria did not complete the survey.
The survey received 249 responses, of which 199 met the criteria. A total of 50 responses did not meet the criteria and were declined. Of those, 62% were unable to work due to disabilities, 26% retired and 12% preferred not to say.
You Said: 78% of responses stated that they would be interested in a career within social housing.
We Did: This information has been presented to the Greater Manchester partnership to provide evidence that is a project worth pursuing.
You Said: The top three areas people were interested in working within social housing were ‘Customer Services and Administration’, ‘Support Services’ and ‘Lettings and Allocations’.
We Did: This information will be used within roadshows, to be completed during National Careers Week. We will highlight each roles content, the skills needed to carry out the role and assisting individuals in preparing to apply for vacancies.
You Said: 92% of responses were not aware of the Jigsaw Employment and Training (JET) club.
We Did: We have advertised this service further, ensuring that it is prominent on the Jigsaw Homes website. We have also displayed more information in community settings. A link to information about the JET club has also been added to the Jigsaw Homes careers webpage.
