Boxing Classes Help Tackle Anti-Social Behaviour

New boxing classes launched in Ashton, Tameside, as part of a community-led effort to reduce anti-social behaviour and provide positive opportunities for young people.

The initiative is a collaboration between our Neighbourhood Engagement Team and Independent Councillor Kaleel Khan, who previously piloted the programme in March 2025 with match funding from Jigsaw.

Following its success, the sessions have now been relaunched in partnership with
Lindley Education Trust, forming part of a wider youth club aimed at supporting disadvantaged young people and those at risk of disengagement.

Held at Samsons Boxing Gym every Friday from 7:30 to 8:30pm, the classes are open
to 12–18-year-olds and focus on building confidence, discipline and community spirit.

Officer Minaz Aslam said: “These sessions are about more than just sport — they’re about giving young people a sense of purpose and belonging. It’s important we continue to invest in initiatives like this that strengthen our communities
from the ground up.”

Over at Holy Trinity Primary School, Minaz also supported local children at their annual sports day. After an active day competing in the egg and spoon race, javelin, shot put and 100 metre run, we treated 200 children with an ice lolly.
