This summer, the Neighbourhood Engagement team organised fun and engaging events for residents across our communities.
In Chorley, our team partnered with Inspire Youth Zone to deliver a series of activities for young people at Longfield Avenue and Buttermere, with more than 60 children taking part in both locations.
From outdoor fun with traditional ball games, tug-of-war, and face-painting to creative sessions, the programme offered something for everyone. Thanks to the Inspire Youth Zone’s ‘Scran Van’, every attendee also enjoyed a free packed lunch.
The project, which was initiated by Officer Tracy Townson, has been such a success that the team is already exploring more opportunities to run similar activities in the future.
Inspire Youth Zone said: “We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Jigsaw Homes for their fantastic collaboration in delivering this summer’s community activities. Their support has been instrumental in helping us create a wide range of engaging, inclusive and memorable experiences for young people and residents.
“By working together, we have been able to strengthen community connections, promote positive engagement and offer opportunities that truly make a difference. We’re incredibly grateful for your partnership and look forward to continuing this valuable work together.”
Officer Gemma Batchelor teamed up with Rainbow Suprise and Manchester Active to organise several action-packed activities for families in Crumpsall.
The free sessions included t-shirt making, arts and crafts, sports activities and trips to the local park, ensuring children had the chance to learn new skills, make friends and have fun.
Each activity also helped to ease financial pressures for families during the school holidays by providing free nutritious meals.
Gemma said: “I’m proud to be working alongside our local partners to bring the children together, creating lasting memories, and making sure every child has the chance to enjoy a safe and fun summer with their friends.”
Our Neighbourhoods Team also received £2,000 from AB Electrical to provide families in Miles Platting, Collyhurst and Newton Heath with food.
The team joined forced with local business Kylie’s Kitchen who used the funding to cook and deliver 897 free meals to families throughout August.
Local resident Kylie, who runs the kitchen, ensured the community had a choice of hot and cold food, snacks, drinks and special treats.
Officer Vikki Fitzgerald said: “Kylie’s knowledge of the local community and her reputation with people means that she is trusted by families to provide help and support.
“The Lord Mayor of Manchester and local councillors even commented on the amazing work she has done this summer and have offered their support for her next project later this year.”
One resident said: “Kylie is amazing; the work she puts into the community is incredible and the meals for the kids really helped us get through the holidays.”
