Four young people from Chorley have successfully completed a ‘Confident Steps to Work’ course helping them on the path to employment.
Our Neighbourhood Engagement Officer, Tracy Townson, teamed up with Chorley Council to run the course for local 18–24 yearolds.
Four young people – Lucy, Adam, Cory and Jacob – took part in several sessions to help build confidence, understand different work sectors, write a strong CV, develop interview skills and work together through group activities and discussions
All four then went on to complete a short taster work placement based on their interests.
Lucy and Adam spent time with the Chorley Foundation, learning about communitybased roles and joining in a variety of sessions while Corey and Jacob completed their placement with Gym Works, where they gained handson insight into working in a busy fitness environment.
Lucy will continue volunteering with Inspire Youth Zone and Adam and Cory plan to continue volunteering with the Chorley Foundation.
To support everyone with their next steps, each participant was given a tablet to help them continue their job search and build on what they learned.
Tracy said: “All four agreed that the course has helped them get back into a routine, boosted their confidence, and given them a renewed sense of purpose.
“Thank you to Dan at Gym Works and Vinny at the Chorley Foundation for giving these young people the chance to take positive steps towards employment.”
