Residents joined together at a ‘My Culture, Your Culture, Our World’ event to celebrate the different cultures and faiths in Tameside, as part of National Hate Crime Awareness Week.
Around 500 people attended the event on 18 October at Ashton Central Mosque, including Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement Officer Minaz Aslam, who also donated food for the community.
The event was organised by Ashton Health Group through the GM Hate Crime Community Small Grants programme, administered by Tameside Council. Several councillors and the Mayor of Tameside also attended to show their support.
Residents were invited to try a variety of food tasting samples, take part in activities such as arts and crafts, and visit information stalls to celebrate seven different cultures within Tameside.
Minaz said: “The culture day was a great opportunity to come together, showcase and celebrate our shared values and traditions, and strengthen the bonds that make our diverse community so warm and welcoming.”
