Volunteers In Nottingham Get Training

Volunteers in Nottingham were invited to an informative day of training, organised by Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement Team.

Officers Asmina Choudhury and John McGlynn visited the Community Grocers in Nottingham and delivered grocer training to new and existing volunteers, helping them to gain more knowledge about the grocers and all aspects of the volunteer role.

Topics covered safeguarding, good customer service, manual handling, conflict management, personal and professional boundaries and confidentiality.

The training was co-designed with our volunteers after colleagues and volunteers requested a training workshop to better equip and support them in their role from the start.

Volunteer Sheree commented: “It was a great slide show and very informative, all delivered in a safe space. I would recommend this to other volunteers as a starter into the workplace”.

The training will also be delivered to volunteers at our Community Grocers in Ashton, Oldham and Miles Platting in the next few weeks.

John McGlynn commented: “It was great for Asmina and me to meet and support all the dedicated volunteers at the Grocers in Nottingham, which opened its doors to the public in March 2025. They were all very keen to learn, while supporting and encouraging each other, which made the experience very worthwhile.

“Thank you to Martin Curtis for organising the day and to colleagues Jason Ormrod and Neil Thomas for sharing their knowledge and expertise which enhanced the learning modules of the training.”
