Community Comes Together for Cultural Celebration

The St. Peter’s community in Ashton, Tameside came alive at the weekend as more than 1,000 residents gathered for the first ever St. Peter’s Culture Vibe event at the Holy Trinity Community Centre and Primary School.

This vibrant cultural celebration, funded by Jigsaw Foundation and Councillor Kaleel Khan’s ward contribution, brought people of all ages and backgrounds together for a day filled with colour, music, and community spirit.

Visitors enjoyed everything from live performances and international food stalls to children’s workshops, face painting and Henna artistry.

Adding a unique touch, local horses joined the festivities, giving families the chance to meet, ride and feed them, while dancing horses entertained and educated children about animals.

The Mayor of Tameside, Councillor Shibley Alam joined the celebrations, spending time at stalls, meeting residents, and enjoying the live performances.

Free ice creams for children and complimentary cheese and onion pies for adults added an extra treat.

Councillor Kaleel Khan said: “The St. Peter’s Culture Vibe event was one of many ways to bring communities together to celebrate diversity, peace, and inclusion – and didn’t we just do that with over a thousand people attending? Well done to everyone involved, especially the volunteers who played such a critical role. Special thanks to Jigsaw Homes for funding this event.”

Minaz Aslam from Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement Team said: “It was truly wonderful to see so many people from different walks of life joining together. This event showed the richness of Ashton-under-Lyne’s culture and the strength of our community spirit. St. Peter’s has always been a place of welcome, and I was delighted to co-host a day where people of all ages and backgrounds came together, shared traditions, and enjoyed one another’s company.”

Organisers have hailed the celebration a huge success and with positive feedback from attendees, many are already calling for St. Peter’s Culture Vibe to become an annual tradition.
