Jigsaw colleagues rallied together to tackle persistent waste issues in Tameside and make the environment cleaner and safer for residents.
Holebottom in Ashton has faced reoccurring issues with contaminated bins and fly-tipping despite numerous attempts to educate residents on proper recycling habits and issuing tenancy warnings.
Working in collaboration with Tameside Council, Jigsaw has now implemented a new strategy to remove all individual bins and introduce communal waste facilities in a newly designated area. This location has already been identified and prepared by the Hit Squad for the delivery of the new bins.
To ensure the success of the initiative, colleagues sprang into action as part of dedicated clean-up day to clear the site.
Sarah Keenan, our Head of Neighbourhoods, Ben Buckley our Neighbourhood Safety Officer, Julie Fraser, Vikki Fitzpatrick, Asmina Choudhury and Carolyn Alston, our Neighbourhood Engagement Officers, Darren Staziker, Jonathan McMillan and Dylan Makinson, our Hit Squad, Andy Hannon, Martin McMylor, and Terry Shaw, our Clean Care team, worked hard to remove all of the fly-tipped waste.
They removed unwanted household furniture, and hundreds of bin bags filled with general rubbish as part of a collective effort to make the area clean and tidy for all.
Juliette Beauchene, our Sustainability Coordinator, also teamed up with Tameside Council and Recycle for Greater Manchester to introduce a new recycling initiative to over 140 homes in the borough.
Residents at Chartist House in Hyde, Whalley Close, and Dukes and Taylors Terrace in Ashton are part of a new trial to encourage more people to recycle food waste ahead of new legislation for domestic waste coming in March 2026.
Juliette helped to hand out information leaflets, bin caddies and bin liners, installed bin housing and brown bins in the recycling area and made sure this was clear and visible to residents.
