Midlands Apprentice Earns Spot at SkillBuild 2026

One of our apprentice plasterers in the Midlands is set to compete in SkillBuild 2026, after being recognised for his exceptional progress.

Ethan Adams will be competing in the plastering category at the SkillBuild Regional Qualifiers at Leeds College of Building this June – the UK’s largest multi-trade competition for construction trainees and apprentices.

The one-day event challenges participants to complete a practical task relevant to their trade, with the eight highest-performing competitors in each specialist skill earning a place at the SkillBuild National Final in November 2026.

Now in his second year with us, Ethan began his plastering apprenticeship in 2024 and is working towards his qualification at Vision West Nottinghamshire College in Mansfield.

He was nominated for the competition in recognition of his standard of work, time-keeping and work ethic, which caught the attention of his tutors among a strong cohort of apprentices and full-time students at the college.

In the competition, Ethan will have seven hours to complete multiple disciplines on an 8×4 plasterboard, including skimming, floating, beading, thin coat rendering and fixing his own profile moulds from fibrous casting plaster.

He will also need to make his own running mould prior to the event, following the criteria set by the judges.

Ethan will work through each area individually to prepare, before completing a practice run ahead of the competition.

Daniel Anderson, our Responsive Repairs Manager said: “To be nominated for a competition of this scale is a fantastic achievement. I have no doubt that Ethan will perform extremely well!”
