An art project has inspired a sense of pride in Cheetham Hill with the local community coming together to celebrate art, culture and hope.
The project, organised by our Neighbourhood Engagement Team in partnership with arts organisation Global Street Art and Lloyds Bank, saw a vibrant mural with the words ‘Hope for Cheetham’ painted in the heart of the community.
The artwork was erected on 1 Galsworthy Avenue in Cheetham Hill and aimed to create a positive focal point to celebrate local identity and rejuvenate a tired looking space.
It was painted by local street artist Oskar with a K and was developed over several months alongside Arawak Walton Housing with the help of local residents and children.
Officer Gemma Batchelor also featured in a promotional video to highlight the positive impact that the mural had created within the local area.
Gemma said: “The mural has created a real buzz in the area, with residents stopping to admire it, talk about it and share their thoughts.
“It’s wonderful to see a project that has been shaped by local people bringing colour, pride and positivity to the neighbourhood. The mural has transformed a previously tired-looking space into something vibrant and uplifting that the community can be proud of.”
