Residents Take Steps to Work

Residents took positive steps toward employment this week, thanks to guidance from Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement Team at a local job and training event.

Officers Gemma Batchelor, John McGlynn, and Julie Fraser hosted a stall at the ‘Steps to Work’ event, organised by Hyde Job Centre at the Oasis Centre in Denton.

The event brought together organisations from a range of sectors and enabled them to meet with local residents and discuss the different apprenticeships, training courses, volunteering opportunities and employability support that they offer.

Our team spent the morning talking with residents about current vacancies at Jigsaw and were able to network with several organisations including The Growth Company, the DWP and Tameside Council.

Over 100 people attended the event and many signed up for our emergency first aid and food hygiene courses, as well as being signposted to the Tameside Work Club, held every Thursday morning at the Dukinfield Hub.

John McGlynn said: “The event was a great success, and we agreed to review and update several CV’s as well as providing follow-up meetings with individuals seeking employment across the borough. “We look forward to attending and supporting future employability events taking place in our neighbourhoods throughout the year.”
