Jigsaw colleagues volunteered at Ashton Grocers in Tameside and made a positive impact on our residents in the local community.
Colleagues Chris Smith, our Group Director of Corporate Services, Sarah Keenan,
our Head of Neighbourhoods, and Karen Denenny, our Customer Advisor, joined Neighbourhood Officers Minaz Aslam and Gemma Batchelor, to help run the Grocers
for the day.
They each took part in a range of activities, from organising stock and deliveries, serving customers, leaflet dropping, travelling to the depot to buy groceries with our volunteer Trevor and setting up and tidying away.
The grocer runs every Monday and provides food delivered from Fareshare for just £5
a bag for local residents to help with the cost of living.
Residents can choose from fresh vegetables, tins, cereals, household items and other essential products that they need. It’s an important way for residents to access a range of food items and shop for the whole family at a fraction of the cost of a supermarket, all while saving thousands of tonnes of food from being wasted each year.
The grocer can also be used as a hub for residents to drop-in, socialise with other people and find out about other services that Jigsaw Homes provides.
