St Peter’s Family Fun Day Brings the Community Together

Families in Tameside enjoyed a vibrant day of free fun and entertainment at St Peter’s Community Gathering’s popular annual family fun day.

The activity day took place at Oxford Park in Ashton with a host of activities, including a bouncy castle, magician, face and henna painter and live music.

Jigsaw helped to fund the day, which was also attended by the Deputy Mayor of Tameside Council, Helen Bowden, and her consort.

Around 1,000 people attended the event, which was led by volunteers from a range of local organisations, including LEAP Children’s and Family Centre who entertained children with their craft and bird box feed stall.

Other stalls at the event were hosted by Tameside Council, Be Well Tameside, Ashton Market and Greater Manchester Police.

Everything at the event was free for families, including refreshments and a welcome ice cream for every youngster.

Minaz Aslam, Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement Officer, said: “It was rewarding to see lots of happy faces and the whole community enjoying the day and engaging with each other at this happy and inclusive event.

“A huge thank you to all the volunteers, including Active Oxford Park, LEAP Children’s and Families Centre and the Community Gathering volunteers. I’d like to give a special thanks to Greater Manchester Police and Tameside Council for their support who all worked so hard to help make the day such a success.”
