Last week we welcomed The Shed (Tameside) into their new premises on Wellington Parade, Dukinfield.
The Shed is a popular men’s shed project that first opened its doors back in 2013. Run as a charity, it offers a safe and supportive space where people (primarily men) can come together to take part in practical activities, learn new skills and most importantly, connect with others.
The aim is to help reduce isolation, boost confidence, encourage healthier lifestyles and improve both physical and mental wellbeing. For many members, it’s also a great way to build friendships and reduce the need for GP visits.
Some of the regular activities taking place include woodworking, bowling, computer skills, furniture repairs, board games and ‘Men in Kitchens’ cooking classes.
The Shed is open Monday to Friday from 9am – 3pm. It welcomes men every day, with Fridays open to women too.
Their new home is in our commercial units on Central Estate, Dukinfield, next to the Dukinfield Pantry. The space has been fully renovated with generous contributions from Morrisons and Vodafone.
It was officially opened by the Lord-Lieutenant of Manchester, Diane Hawkins alongside the Civic Mayor of Tameside Councillor Shibley Alam and her consort Mr Mohammed Khairul Alam.
Jigsaw’s Head of Neighbourhoods Sue Cox said: “It was great to see this opening and I’d like to give a special thank you to Lisa Gilfedder from our Leasehold and Service Charge team for all her hard work in making this lease a reality.”
