Women in North Manchester now have a safe space to share experiences and get support with menopause, thanks to the launch of Menopause Together.
The community-led group, based in Cheetham Hill and Crumpsall, was created after local women asked for culturally sensitive and accessible support. Many felt there were few opportunities to talk openly about menopause, mental health and wellbeing.
Our Neighbourhood Engagement Officer Gemma Batchelor worked closely with Al-Hilal Hubb, Winning Hearts and Minds, Morrisso Health, Manchester City Council and Manchester Local Care Organisation to support and develop the group, ensuring it reflected the needs of the community.
Monthly sessions are now underway, with the first two held at Al-Hilal Hubb in Cheetham Hill, starting with an engaging talk by Lauren from Mindful Mums on how nutrition and supplements can support wellbeing during menopause, with attendees also having the opportunity to share their ideas for future meetings.
In November, guest speaker Sultana from the Muslim Therapy Network discussed how menopause can affect mental health and shared practical coping strategies, along with activities and a raffle.
Gemma said: “Menopause Together has been shaped by the women attending and what they have told us they need. It’s been really positive to see women connecting, learning from guest speakers and enjoying the sessions in a relaxed and supportive space. As the group grows, we plan to move across different venues in Cheetham and Crumpsall and offer different times so it’s accessible to everyone.”
The next session will take place at Al-Hilal Hubb on Wednesday 17 December from 10am–12pm.
