Jigsaw Homes Group is supporting National Hoarding Awareness Week (11-17 May), the annual campaign which aims to raise awareness and reduce the stigma around hoarding disorder.
Hoarding disorder is a mental health condition characterised by difficulty in discarding or parting with possessions. This often leads to excessive clutter that can interfere with everyday living and negatively affect quality of life for the individual and their family.
As part of this awareness week, Jigsaw’s Hoarding Specialist Jayne Mee will be hosting a special peer support group at the 4C Community Centre in Ashton-under-Lyne, Tameside.
Working alongside other professionals, the event will help to share knowledge of hoarding behaviours and help people with lived experience improve their understanding of the condition.
Jayne said: “Hoarding is still widely misunderstood, and that often leads to stigma and people struggling in silence, so this session is about raising awareness and connecting people to support – letting them know they’re not alone.”
Jayne will also be speaking at the North West Hoarders Helping Hoarders annual conference in September, which this year will bringing together lived experience and professional practice to deepen understanding, challenge stigma, and improve how we support people affected by hoarding.
Our services supporting those with hoarding behaviour have recently expanded to cover Tameside and now Manchester.
