Residents in Cheetham Hill have celebrated the completion of a community well-being programme which saw them learn new skills and socialise.
The group started in September and was held every fortnight at Love World Church, with sessions designed to help reduce isolation and loneliness among older residents.
Over the course of the programme, they took part in a range of activities such as knitting, crocheting, and making an array of handmade items including hats and scarves.
Health checks, nutrition talks, and armchair exercise sessions were also offered to help residents remain active and maintain healthy lifestyles.
The sessions were organised by Neighbourhood Engagement Officer Gemma Batchelor and volunteers from the Love World Church.
Residents formed new friendships and became better connected to their local community. Many were also given the opportunity to rediscover their love for old hobbies.
To mark the end of the programme, a celebration event was held last week to recognise the achievements of everyone involved. As a group they reflected on their experiences, shared feedback and received a certificate for their hard work and commitment.
Resident Josephine Jackson said: “I hadn’t done any knitting since my children were babies. When I started again, it all came back to me. It’s something I’ve always enjoyed but hadn’t done for years. This group has brought me back to myself.”
