Clarion Housing Group, which operates the mutual exchange service, House Exchange, has confirmed that this will be closing at the end of July 2026.
If you use House Exchange to search for a mutual exchange, you’ll need to create a free HomeSwapper account before 31 July 2026.
Tenants who are currently registered on House Exchange may need to take a few steps before the service closes.
- Check matches and make a note of any homes you’re interested in
- Save any important messages or contact details, as these won’t be accessible after 31 July 2026
- Register with HomeSwapper
Registered tenants can still swap their home with another council or housing association tenant after the 31 July 2026 using www.HomeSwapper.co.uk
What is HomeSwapper?
HomeSwapper is one of the UK’s leading mutual exchange services and offers:
- Access to a large number of homes nationwide, increasing your chances of finding the right match
- Smart matching technology that suggests suitable swaps based on your needs
- Easy-to-use messaging tools to connect with other tenants quickly
- Flexible search filters, helping you find homes by area, type, and preferences
- Multi-swap options, making it easier to arrange more complex exchanges
What happens if I’m already arranging an exchange through House Exchange?
If you’ve already found an exchange partner and have formally submitted your mutual exchange application, your application will not be affected by this change.
If you’ve found an exchange partner but have not yet submitted your application, we recommend that both you and your exchange partner register with HomeSwapper and reconnect through the new platform before House Exchange closes.
