Residents in Oldham rolled up their sleeves for a Make and Bake course at the Oldham Community Grocers in Chadderton.
A total of 10 residents attended the four-week course and got stuck into a new project each week, learning how to make clay trinket bowls, healthy cheesecakes and fresh herbal teas.
The sessions were organised by Joanne Shaw, Jigsaw’s Neighbourhood Engagement Officer, and ran by Michelle Mckenna from Clippy’s.
They aimed to create a friendly environment where residents could come together and learn new skills while also improving their mental health.
Resident Bilkis said: “Michelle’s workshops have helped me become more confident and learn new skills. They have helped me communicate better, work well with other people and believe in myself. I have enjoyed the workshops and feel more prepared for the future”.
Residents in Dukinfield also attended a four-week Healthier Habits cookery course and learned how to create better eating habits while cooking on a budget.
The sessions, which took place at the Dukinfield Hub, taught residents new skills and encouraged them to find different ways of cooking.
This course was also run by Joanne and Michelle and each person that completed it received a certificate and a shopping voucher.
Resident Ethan said: “This course has helped show me proper food preparation and the versatility of foods. It’s been so helpful to me as a young adult living on my own and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the course. Thank you!”
