A local food bank in Tameside received funding from Jigsaw Foundation to continue providing much-needed support to local people facing financial hardship.
The Yew Tree Food Bank in Denton received a £5,000 grant for a one-year programme to develop its services, ensuring residents can continue to access essential food supplies and wider community support.
The food bank currently operates twice a week, opening on Tuesday mornings and Sunday afternoons. Alongside its food bank service, the organisation also runs a warm hub coffee morning and serves hot meals, creating a welcoming space where residents can access support, meet others and build social connections.
Yew Tree is also exploring ways to deliver food bank supplies to residents who are unable to attend in person due to health, mobility or other barriers.
Looking ahead, the organisation aims to use Foundation funding to develop a community grocery model, strengthening partnerships with local businesses and community groups, and increasing engagement with Jigsaw residents and the wider neighbourhood.
They also plan to further develop the community centre and create a youth club for young people in the local area, creating a friendly space for social connection.
