Colleagues kick-started our new Neighbourhood Impact initiative in style by fitting a new kitchen in a local community space for young people.
The project was delivered at Inspire, Chorley Youth Zone on Chapel Street by our Kitchen Fitter Gary Hammond and Component Fitter Phil Dryhurst.
The Youth Zone is a purpose-built charity center offering, safe, affordable, and engaging activities for young people aged 8-19 (up to 25 with disabilities).
Having a fresh, updated kitchen will help the Youth Zone continue their work in the community and help the young people who attend to learn vital life skills.
Our Neighbourhood Engagement Officer Tracy Townson provided funding for the tiling, and the day was coordinated by our Engagement, Funding and Research Officer Samantha Hornsby.
Jigsaw initially partnered with Inspire: Chorley Youth Zone in 2018 as founder patrons and in 2025 awarded £40,000 in funding for two years from our Jigsaw Foundation to support its work. It encourages many of our young residents to take part in events and clubs and holds a number of outreach programmes in our neighbourhoods across Chorley.
Gemma Bathurst-Whittle from Inspire said: “We really appreciate the support that Jigsaw has given, and without your quick response and help, the opening of the kitchen would have been delayed. Thanks to you we will be opening the kitchen imminently and our young people will have a brand-new kitchen to learn vital life skills in with their friends”
