New Communal Gardens Blossom

Residents at Gibson Terrace in Tameside are enjoying a vibrant new outdoor space following a complete transformation of their communal garden.

The supported housing scheme in Ashton has seen its under-used garden area brought to life with new seating, a pergola, planters, and a wide range of herbs, fruits and flowers.

The transformation was all thanks to a collaboration between our partners and residents. It included removing old canopies, timber furniture and overgrown planters and has created a welcoming space where residents can relax, connect and enjoy nature.

The project was delivered by our contractors The Casey Group, through their Improving Lives Fund, which supports initiatives that create lasting impact in local communities.

The garden was officially opened last week by Brian Moran, our Chief Executive Officer and Chris Casey, Chief Executive of The Casey Group at a community event attended by residents and their children, who played a key role in the planting and creative artwork.

Resident Stacey said: “My two girls loved getting involved with the planting, and they are keen to make sure that the garden thrives. We all love the garden now, and it is really nice to have a place where we can all sit out and chat and enjoy the outdoors.”

Donna Kelly, our Group Director of Neighbourhoods and Support, said: “We would like to thank Casey for all their hard work on this fantastic project. It has created a great space for our residents and their families to enjoy. The children have been very involved in the planting, and they also now have a separate dedicated space for them too. This has been a great collaboration from all involved!”

Additional funding and support came from Drees & Sommer UK, our Jigsaw Foundation, and the STAR (Supported Temporary Accommodation Residents) group, who contributed to gardening activities and helped bring the vision to life.

Our Caretaking team also joined forces with Casey to help refresh the community garden at Assheton House in Tameside.

Casey donated funding which our team used to plant new flowers in the garden and update the pre-existing planters, giving them a new lease of life.

Warren Cooper, our Regional Supervisor, worked with Lee Wilson, our Caretaker and Zoe Turner, our Group Operations Manager, to transform the garden, with residents commenting on how much better the area looks.
