Supporting World Menopause Day in our Neighbourhoods

Supporting World Menopause Day in our Neighbourhoods

As part of World Menopause Day on 18 October, our Neighbourhood Engagement team organised several events to bring women together and offer shared support to those experiencing menopause symptoms.

In Moston, Officer Julie Fraser hosted a small event, inviting 26 women to have open and honest conversations about the menopause, breaking the stigma around it.

Facilitated by Winning Hearts and Minds, the Department of Working Health and our Menopause Chat and Change peer support group, attendees were encouraged to share their personal experiences, access peer support and learn about how to manage the physical and emotional changes that the menopause can bring.

Women at the session enjoyed tea and cake, and raised money for a cancer charity with a small raffle taking place on the day.

In Cheetham Hill, Officer Gemma Batchelor worked with local organisations and residents from Empower M8 to host a menopause awareness stall at the Wai Yin Welcome Centre, as part of opening celebrations at the Cheetham Cultural Festival.

Members of the Menopause Together support group joined the event, where information was shared on menopause and chronic pain.

Resources were available in Urdu, alongside activities including singing with Kitty from Creative Confidence and a drumming session led by Zsuzsa from the Drum Therapy Collective.
