GMHP supports almost 6,000 local residents towards work

The latest report into the employment and skills opportunities created by social housing providers in Greater Manchester has revealed that during 2025/26, 5,758 residents were supported towards work.

Greater Manchester Housing Providers’ (GMHP) annual Employment and Skills Outcomes Report highlights the significant impact of housing associations working together to create employment, training and skills opportunities for people living across the city-region.

The report shows that during the year:

  • 5,758 residents were supported towards work.
  • 2,671 residents received careers advice.
  • 2,859 residents were supported with job applications and 2,866 residents received help with their CVs.
  • 2,243 residents gained a recognised training qualification through GMHP partners.
  • 3,040 residents attended work clubs.
  • Local communities contributed 112,387 volunteer hours during the year.

The figures demonstrate the scale of investment made by GMHP members to help residents improve their skills, increase their confidence and move closer to employment opportunities.

GMHP’s employment and skills work focuses on supporting residents into work, providing access to training and qualifications, and creating pathways that enable people to achieve their long-term career ambitions.

Donna Kelly, Group Director of Neighbourhoods and Support at Jigsaw Homes Group and Chair of GMHP’s Employment and Skills Group, said:

“These latest figures demonstrate the positive difference that housing providers can make when we work together to support residents and communities across Greater Manchester. By combining our resources, expertise and local knowledge, we are helping thousands of residents build brighter futures for themselves and their families.”

“Behind every number is a person who has gained new skills, increased their confidence, accessed training, or taken an important step towards employment. Such opportunities can be life-changing. I’m incredibly proud of what our partnership has achieved.”

“Greater Manchester’s housing providers remain committed to continue improving life chances and creating opportunities for residents through employment, training and skills development.”

Olivia Williams, an Apprentice Joiner in Tameside with Jigsaw Homes, one of the GMHP partners, said: “Working as an apprentice joiner at Jigsaw Homes has been a rewarding journey. With the support, guidance, and encouragement from my colleagues and mentors along the way, it has helped me develop the necessary skills. “I am passionate about the work I do, taking pride in improving homes and making a positive difference for residents, and remain motivated to keep learning, growing, and striving for excellence in my trade.”
