Jigsaw Foundation Helps Good Food Gorton

Healthy Me Healthy Communities CiC in Manchester has been awarded more than £12,000 from the Jigsaw Foundation, for a project to support hundreds of residents during the cost-of-living crisis.

The Good Food Gorton project, which will operate for a year at Gorton Central on Highmead Street, will provide a range of services to help residents build skills, improve their health and strengthen connections within the community.

Nearly one in five Manchester residents say they worry about having enough food. Healthy Me Healthy Communities believe that everyone deserves affordable, healthy and culturally appropriate food.

The new funding will help improve the centre to meet the growing need to support residents’ confidence in cooking, offering access to a weekly community grocer, free cooking classes and equipment as well as training courses and practical energy advice.

Focus groups will also take place at the centre to shape the future of food support in Gorton, ensuring local people help to design services around what they need.

Julie McGlynn, our Engagement, Funding and Research Officer said: “Working in collaboration with Julie Fraser from our Neighbourhood Engagement Team and Kate Harrison, Service and Business Manager at Gorton Central has enabled us to secure the funding for this fantastic project.

“Together, we can help Jigsaw residents not just access food, but feel confident, connected and in control.”
