Residents in Dukinfield took part in a six-week Seasonal Preserving Course, learning new recipes using ingredients that are freshly in season.
Across several sessions at the Dukinfield Hub, residents worked in pairs to make chutney, jam, ketchup, cordial and relish from healthy, seasonal ingredients.
Neighbourhood Engagement Officer Joanne Shaw joined Michelle McKenna from Clippy’s to deliver the sessions and teach new skills to residents while helping them save money by using affordable ingredients.
Joanne said: “This was a fun and informative course giving participants the skills to make their own store cupboard ingredients from scratch, both saving money and choosing healthier options.”
Resident Susan said: “This course highlighted the simplicity of affordable ingredients used effectively for healthy nutritious meal additions.”
Our Neighbourhood Team were also on hand to help residents in Ashton enjoy a tasty meal as they enjoyed a pie supper at Cavendish Mill.
Officers Minaz Aslam and Julie Fraser organised the event, which included a raffle, for 31 Over 55’s residents and also handed out energy advice packs.
The team will host another event in February to help residents tackle both financial and health wellbeing.
