New kitchens along with bathroom replacements and window replacements will be done in a phased programme on the Yew Tree estate in Dukinfield and at Castle Hall, Springs and Hague estates in Stalybridge.
There will be a range of kitchen and bathroom replacements in and around north and south Manchester.
£0.5 million will be spent on new kitchen and bathrooms to homes in the Midlands.
How will I know if I am getting a new kitchen?
We will have written to you to let you know that your kitchen is being replaced. This is part of an improvement programme by Jigsaw Homes to ensure homes remain safe, functional and up to modern standards.
The work is being carried out by experienced and trusted contractor Connolly and their Resident Liaison Officer (RLO) will be in touch with you.
What work will be carried out in my kitchen?
Work may include:
- Removal of your existing kitchen
- New kitchen units and worktops
- A new sink and taps
- Wall tiling or plastering
- New floor coverings
- Decoration
- Electrical upgrades where required
Will I be able to choose the colour or style of my new kitchen?
Yes. Residents are provided with choice sheets for available colours and finishes. Once selections have been agreed and ordered, they cannot usually be changed.
How long will this take?
You will be provided with a step-by-step guide to the work before it starts, so you aware of the programme.
The whole operations should take no longer than 12-15 working days but your designated Resident Liaison Officer will keep you informed along the way, and let you know of any unexpected delays or issues.
Preparing for the Work
What do I need to do before the work starts?
You will need to:
- Empty all kitchen cupboards
- Clear worktops and floor areas
- Remove curtains, blinds and fittings you wish to keep
- Remove pictures and mirrors from walls
- Keep essential items such as a kettle, microwave and cutlery accessible
Can I get help moving furniture or belongings?
In certain circumstances, support can be arranged. If you think you may need assistance, speak to your RLO as early as possible.
What should I do with valuables and personal items?
Residents are advised to safely pack away valuables, ornaments and personal belongings before work starts to protect them during the refurbishment.
During the Installation
Will there be a lot of dust and noise?
Yes, kitchen replacement work can create dust, debris and noise. Our contractors will take steps to minimise disruption, use protective coverings and clean up regularly, but some dust is unavoidable.
No noisy work will start before 8.00am
Will I have access to water, electricity and cooking facilities?
Services may need to be temporarily disconnected during the working day. Wherever possible, they will be restored at the end of each day. If this is not possible, alternative arrangements will be made.
Can the contractor access my home if I’m at work?
We will need access to your home between the hours of 8.00am and 4.30pm Monday to Thursday and 8.00am to 3.30pm on Friday during the work.
If you’re unable to be at home during these hours, alternative access arrangements can be discussed. In some cases, a key can be securely held by the contractor to allow access.
How can I identify genuine contractors?
All operatives carry identification badges. You should always ask to see identification before allowing anyone into your home.
What happens if my gas, electricity or water needs to be switched off?
Operatives may need to temporarily disconnect services while carrying out work. For safety reasons, residents should not attempt to reconnect them themselves. Contractors will restore services when it is safe to do so.
After the Work
What happens if I’m unhappy with the finished kitchen?
A handover inspection will take place when the work is completed. The kitchen will not be signed off until any outstanding issues have been addressed and you have had the opportunity to review the finished work.
What should I do if I discover a problem after completion?
Any concerns should be reported as soon as possible to your Resident Liaison Officer so they can be investigated and resolved through the project’s aftercare and complaints process.
How do I look after my new kitchen?
You will be provided with care and maintenance information after installation, including advice on using and maintaining your new units, worktops and fittings.
Support and Communication
What if I have children or pets?
For safety reasons, children and pets should be kept away from work areas while work is ongoing. Building work can be stressful for pets, so alternative arrangements may be worth considering.
What if someone in my household has a medical condition or additional needs?
Please tell your RLO before work begins. The team will discuss any special requirements and make reasonable arrangements where possible. Temporary facilities or respite arrangements may also be discussed if required.
Who do I contact if I have questions or concerns?
Your RLO will be your main point of contact throughout the project and can help with questions, concerns or special arrangements.
